North Devon Boat species hunting the unexplored Angling potential.

As the water warms up we get an influx of different species off the North Devon coast however the species fishing is often overlooked and is an untapped angling potential that we would like to explore more often.

To target a specific species you need to fish the right marks with the right baits and tackle at the right time. we do run some trips targeting specific species like smooth hound trips, tope trips, red mullet trip and bass trips which you can find on our booking page (The link is below).

We also do species hunting days where we try and catch the most different types of fish in one trip. To do this you need to mix things up, we move a lot and fish a lot of different baits presented in many different ways from the ultra light with tiny hooks for the mini species to getting the heavy gear out for the ray tope and other larger species. We held a couple general species hunting trips last year the most we had in one day was 20 different species, tactics employed are as varied as the baits used and that is the key to species hunting.

during the species hunting days we did infact land a couple potential British records we now have light weight scales for mini species on the boats!

You need to provide your own bait and gear for species hunting trips if you need any advice on rigs or tactics don’t hesitate to make contact with us or pop into one of our local tackle shops.
